A guide to cannabis allergies and symptoms

Marijuana allergies are becoming more recognized as cannabis use increases, with reports from budtenders, recreational users, and medical patients experiencing allergic reactions. The American College of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology states that over 50 million Americans suffer from allergies each year, and cannabis has emerged as a new potential allergen.

Common symptoms include nasal drip, watery eyes, and congestion, often triggered by cannabis consumption.

Research into marijuana allergies has gained attention in recent years, especially following the rise of cannabis legalization.

One key factor is the buoyant nature of cannabis pollen, which can travel long distances and act as an irritant. Male plants primarily produce pollen, though female plants can also produce it in certain conditions, adding complexity. Additionally, the growing popularity of cannabis consumption methods such as smoking, vaping, edibles, tinctures, and topicals contributes to the risk of allergic reactions.

The increased THC content in cannabis, which is higher in female plants to enhance psychoactive effects, may also play a role in triggering allergies, as THC could be a potential allergen.

Allergic reactions occur when the body’s immune system overreacts to perceived invaders like pollen or mold. These responses trigger symptoms like nasal congestion and eye irritation, common to various allergens, including cannabis. As cannabis consumption continues to grow, so too does the need for more research on its potential as an allergen.

A recent UK-based study explored the potential benefits of medical cannabis for individuals with ADHD. Over a 12-month period, 68 patients using cannabis reported improvements in anxiety, sleep quality, and overall health-related quality of life. The treatment was generally well tolerated, with only 11 participants experiencing mild side effects like insomnia and dry mouth. Some even stopped using other ADHD medications during the study. However, the improvements in anxiety and sleep quality reversed by the 12-month mark, with no significant differences between long-term cannabis users and new users.

ADHD, a neurodevelopmental condition, is often treated with medications like Adderall, but these can have negative side effects. Cannabis, known to interact with the endocannabinoid system, may offer an alternative for improving concentration and reducing symptoms like hyperactivity and impulsivity. While the study suggests cannabis could help, it also highlights the need for further research, particularly to understand how different strains, doses, and consumption methods impact ADHD.

There’s nothing quite like getting into the rhythm of a great workout. Whether you're hitting the pavement with a run, lifting kettlebells with intensity, or swimming across the pool with powerful strokes, a solid exercise session can leave you feeling amazing.

For some, though, cannabis might be the key to shaking off workout resistance and enjoying physical activity. Despite the stereotype that cannabis users are more likely to be inactive, research is showing that many people who use cannabis have a healthy connection to exercise.

Much of what we know about cannabis and its effects on exercise comes from surveys and personal experiences over the years. With the growing popularity of cannabis due to legalization and increased availability, researchers are more eager to explore how it affects various aspects of health and lifestyle. But federal restrictions on cannabis make it difficult to conduct controlled studies on the subject.

In a survey of 605 cannabis users, titled “The New Runner’s High?”, 81.7% of participants reported using cannabis during or around their workouts. Many users mentioned benefits such as boosted motivation, greater enjoyment, and faster recovery. Around 37.5% claimed that cannabis improved their performance.

There were also preferences for certain methods of consumption: Cannabis flower and concentrates were more common than edibles among those who worked out with cannabis.

Further analysis showed that 68.9% of cannabis users consumed weed within one hour before exercising, and 82% used it within four hours after exercise. Interestingly, 67% of participants used cannabis both before and after their workout.

These cannabis users engaged in an average of 159.7 minutes of aerobic exercise per week, compared to just 103.5 minutes for those who didn’t consume cannabis. Forty percent of these cannabis users met or exceeded the recommended 150 minutes of weekly aerobic exercise from the American College of Sports Medicine, while only 28.7% of non-users did the same.

Why do we get cotton mouth, and how to get rid of it or avoid it?

           What is cottonmouth?

Cottonmouth occurs when cannabis is consumed orally, whether through smoking, dabbing, or vaping. When cannabis smoke or vapor is inhaled, the cannabinoids interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the submandibular glands of the mouth, which play a key role in producing saliva. This interaction not only induces the effects of a high or medical benefit but also reduces saliva production in the process.

           Is cottonmouth dangerous?

While cottonmouth itself is not typically harmful, it can be managed with simple solutions like drinking water, using lozenges, or applying specialized toothpaste. However, if left unaddressed over time, chronic dry mouth can increase the risk of dental issues like plaque buildup, gum disease, and cavities. Staying hydrated while using cannabis can help prevent these long-term effects.

Extracted using live plants, the live resin contains higher terpene profiles.

The extraction method is with flash-frozen cannabis, then blasted with BHO.

Live rosin extraction is more intensive and time-consuming than Live Resin extraction, but the result is a more complex, nuanced flavor profile, a smoother consumption experience, and a cleaner/more robust edible. Plus, Live Rosin doesn't use chemical solvents, so it's considered a more natural, clean product.

Hello, darlings, and welcome back to the blog from Grandma’s Pot Shop!

Today, I want to talk about a topic that might sound a little technical but is actually quite simple and wonderful: cannabis MCT oil. You’ve probably seen it on our shelves and wondered, "What makes this oil so special?" Well, let's break it down together. Think of it as a little secret that makes your cannabis experience even better.

What in the World is MCT Oil?

            The name "MCT" stands for

            Medium-Chain Triglycerides

. That’s just a fancy way of saying it's a type of healthy fat, most often sourced from coconuts. Unlike other fats that are difficult for your body to process, MCTs are easily and quickly absorbed.

So, why do we use it with cannabis?

Cannabinoids, like THC and CBD, are "fat-soluble." This means they love to dissolve in fat. MCT oil acts as a perfect "carrier" or "vehicle" for these compounds. It helps your body absorb the cannabinoids more efficiently, making the product more effective. We like to think of it as a helpful hand that guides the good stuff right where it needs to go.

The Grandma-Approved Benefits of MCT Oil

           What it is:

Using cannabis with MCT oil isn't just about absorption; it comes with a few other wonderful perks:

            Faster & More Consistent Effects:

Because MCT oil is so easily absorbed, the cannabis can start working more quickly, especially when taken a certain way (we’ll get to that in a moment!). This also leads to a more consistent and reliable experience.

            Extended Shelf Life:

MCT oil is very stable and doesn’t oxidize easily. This means your product will stay fresh and potent for longer, so you don't have to worry about it losing its magic over time.

            Odorless and Tasteless:

One of the best things about MCT oil is its neutral flavor. It won't interfere with the natural taste of the cannabis or any food or drink you add it to, making it incredibly versatile.

            Bonus Health Benefits:

On its own, MCT oil is known to provide a quick source of energy and can even support brain health. It's a wonderful wellness booster all on its own!

           What it is:

Using cannabis MCT oil is as easy as can be. It usually comes in a small bottle with a dropper, which allows for precise and easy dosing. Remember our golden rule:

           Start low, and go slow.

            Why it works:

The capillaries under your tongue absorb the cannabinoids directly into your bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. You might start to feel the effects in as little as 15-45 minutes.

             What it is:

This is perfect for a longer-lasting, more gentle effect.

              How :

Simply swallow your dose or mix it into your favorite food or drink.

You can add it to a smoothie, stir it into your morning coffee, or even drizzle it over a salad.

            Why it works:

The cannabis must first be digested and processed by your liver, so the effects take longer to kick in—typically 60-90 minutes—but they can last for many hours.

           A Quick Note on Dosing:

Everyone's body is different, so what works for one person might not work for another. Begin with the smallest recommended dose and wait for the effects. If you feel you need more, you can slowly increase your dose the next time. Keeping a small journal of your doses and how you feel can be very helpful!

When ingesting the oil, be patient. The effects can take time to appear, so don't be tempted to take more right away.

            Safety First:

Just like with any cannabis product, please do not drive or operate heavy machinery after using cannabis oil.

When you’re new to cannabis, the terminology surrounding quantities can be a bit overwhelming. Whether you’re purchasing cannabis from a dispensary or just trying to understand how much you’re getting, it’s important to know the common measurements used in the cannabis world.

This simple guide will break down the most common cannabis quantities, such as an eighth, a quarter, and an ounce, so you’ll feel confident next time you’re buying or talking about cannabis. Let's make sense of these measurements, and provide a helpful visual guide along the way!

           Common Cannabis Quantities

Cannabis is typically sold in standard measurements, with each quantity representing a specific amount of cannabis flower (the buds of the plant). The most common units you'll encounter are the gram, eighth, quarter, half, and ounce. Here's what each one means:

           1. The Gram (1g)

           What it is

: A gram is the smallest unit of cannabis you’ll usually find. It's a single, small measurement that is commonly used for personal, one-time use or for sampling a new strain.

An ounce is usually enough for 28 to 40 joints, depending on how much you use per joint.

           Best for

: Heavy users, people who want to stock up, or those who share cannabis with others. Purchasing in larger quantities typically comes with a price break, making it more cost-effective for regular users.

Here’s a quick visual guide to help you better understand cannabis quantities.

             – A small, one-time use amount. About 1-2 small buds.

             – Double the size of an eighth. A good supply for casual users.

             – A full stockpile, enough for many sessions or a group.

           What About Concentrates and Edibles?

You might also encounter cannabis concentrates and edibles, which are typically measured in milligrams (mg) rather than grams or ounces. Here’s a quick breakdown of how they are measured:

            Concentrates

: These are more potent forms of cannabis (like wax, shatter, or oil), and they're usually sold in gram or half-gram increments.

            Edibles

: Edibles are measured by their THC content. Common doses range from 5 mg to 10 mg of THC per serving, with stronger edibles having 100 mg or more.

           Tips for Buying Cannabis

            Start Small

: If you’re new to cannabis, start with smaller quantities like an eighth or a gram. This will give you a chance to try different strains and find what works best for you.

            Know Your Usage

: If you only consume cannabis occasionally, a gram or eighth may be enough for you. But if you’re a daily user, you might want to consider a quarter or half ounce to avoid having to purchase frequently.

            Quality Over Quantity

: Sometimes it’s better to invest in higher-quality cannabis rather than larger quantities of lower-quality options. Choose what best fits your preferences and needs.

           Conclusion

Now that you have a better understanding of cannabis quantities, you’ll be more confident in choosing the right amount for your needs. Whether you’re picking up a small gram or stocking up with an ounce, knowing how much you’re purchasing helps you stay informed and make the best decisions for your cannabis use.

Cannabis tinctures are becoming increasingly popular among cannabis users, especially those who are seeking a discreet, smoke-free, and effective way to enjoy the benefits of cannabis. Whether you’re looking for an alternative to smoking or edibles, tinctures offer a unique method of consumption that’s easy to dose and offers fast-acting effects. But what exactly are cannabis tinctures, how do you make them, and how should you use them? Let’s dive into the world of tinctures and explore everything you need to know.

           What is a Cannabis Tincture?

A cannabis tincture is a liquid extract of cannabis, typically made by soaking cannabis in alcohol or a glycerin solution. This process allows the active compounds in cannabis—such as THC and CBD—to be absorbed into the liquid, creating a potent and easy-to-consume form of cannabis. Tinctures are usually taken sublingually (under the tongue), which allows for faster absorption into the bloodstream compared to other methods of consumption.

Tinctures have been around for centuries, long before the rise of smoking or edible cannabis products. They were once a common remedy for a variety of health issues, and now they’re making a comeback, particularly among those looking for a more controlled and discreet way to consume cannabis.

           How to Make Cannabis Tinctures

Making your own cannabis tincture at home is relatively simple, but it requires some patience. You’ll need a few basic ingredients and supplies, including high-proof alcohol (like Everclear), cannabis, and a container for storing the tincture.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make your own cannabis tincture:

           Ingredients:

            High-proof alcohol

(Everclear is commonly used, but any alcohol over 100 proof will work)

             (for storing the tincture)

           Instructions:

            Decarboxylate the Cannabis

: Before making the tincture, you’ll need to activate the THC and CBD in your cannabis by decarboxylating it. To do this, simply break up the cannabis buds and spread them evenly on a baking sheet. Bake at 240°F (115°C) for about 30-40 minutes, checking frequently to ensure it doesn’t burn. This step is crucial for activating the compounds in the cannabis.

            Combine the Cannabis and Alcohol

: Place your decarboxylated cannabis in a jar, and pour enough alcohol over it to completely cover the plant material. Seal the jar tightly and shake it well to mix.

            Let it Infuse

: Store the jar in a cool, dark place for about 2-3 weeks. Shake the jar once or twice a day to ensure the cannabis is well-mixed with the alcohol.

            Strain the Tincture

: After 2-3 weeks, strain the tincture through a cheesecloth or coffee filter to remove the plant material. The liquid left behind is your cannabis tincture.

            Store and Label

: Transfer the tincture into a glass dropper bottle for easy dosing. Be sure to label the bottle with the date and the strain used.

           How to Consume Cannabis Tinctures

Tinctures are most commonly consumed sublingually (under the tongue), which allows the cannabinoids to enter your bloodstream quickly for fast-acting effects. This method is also discreet, making tinctures a great option for those who want to consume cannabis without smoking or eating edibles.

           To take a tincture:

            Shake the Bottle

: Shake your tincture bottle well before use to ensure the cannabis extract is evenly distributed.

            Place Under the Tongue

: Use the dropper to place the desired amount of tincture under your tongue. Hold it there for about 30 seconds to a minute before swallowing. This allows the cannabinoids to be absorbed through the mucous membranes in your mouth for faster onset.

            Start Slow

: If you’re new to tinctures, start with a small dose (about 1-2 drops) and wait at least 30 minutes to gauge the effects before taking more. You can always increase the dose later if needed.

How to Dose Cannabis Tinctures Safely

Dosing cannabis tinctures can be a bit tricky, as the potency can vary based on how it’s made and the concentration of cannabis used. The best part about tinctures is that you can control the dosage more easily compared to smoking or edibles. Here’s how to dose safely:

            Start Low and Slow

: If you’re new to tinctures or cannabis in general, it’s always best to start with a low dose. Begin with 1-2 drops under the tongue and wait for at least 30 minutes to see how you feel. The effects from tinctures can take up to an hour to fully kick in, so be patient.

            Gradually Increase

: If you don’t feel the desired effects after your initial dose, increase your dosage by one drop at a time until you find the right amount for you. Keep track of your doses and how they make you feel to find the optimal dosage.

            Know the THC Content

: When buying tinctures from a dispensary, be sure to check the THC (or CBD) content on the label. Most tinctures will clearly state how many milligrams of THC or CBD are in each milliliter of the tincture. This will help you better understand the potency and make more informed dosing decisions.

: For those who want to avoid smoking or vaping, tinctures are a smoke-free option that still provides the therapeutic benefits of cannabis.

Rick Simpson Oil, or RSO, is a potent cannabis extract that has gained widespread attention in the medical cannabis community due to its reported health benefits. Named after Canadian medical marijuana activist Rick Simpson, RSO is often touted as a miracle oil for treating a variety of conditions, from chronic pain to cancer. But what exactly is Rick Simpson Oil? How is it made, and what are its uses? And, most importantly, how do you use it safely?

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll dive into everything you need to know about RSO, from its origins to its potential benefits and risks.

What is Rick Simpson Oil (RSO)?

Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) is a concentrated cannabis oil made using a special extraction method developed by Rick Simpson himself. Unlike other cannabis oils, RSO is highly potent, containing a high concentration of THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. It’s often used by medical cannabis patients who need a more intense and concentrated form of treatment.

RSO is typically a thick, dark oil, and its high THC content means it’s very powerful. Because of its potency, RSO is typically used for specific medical conditions, and it’s known for being a full-spectrum extract, meaning it contains a wide range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other beneficial compounds found in the cannabis plant.

The Origins of Rick Simpson Oil

Rick Simpson, a Canadian medical marijuana activist, first developed RSO in the early 2000s as part of his own battle with cancer. After being diagnosed with skin cancer, Simpson began experimenting with cannabis to find a natural alternative to the harsh treatments prescribed by his doctors.

He used the cannabis oil topically and also consumed it, and he claims to have successfully cured his own cancer through this treatment. This led to his advocacy for the medicinal use of cannabis, and he began sharing his method for making cannabis oil with the public, eventually popularizing it as Rick Simpson Oil.

Simpson’s claims sparked a widespread interest in RSO, though it's important to note that while many people have reported benefits, there is still a lack of scientific research to definitively prove its effectiveness for cancer treatment.

           How is RSO Made?

Making RSO involves extracting the cannabinoids and other compounds from cannabis flowers using a solvent, typically ethanol, although other solvents like butane or isopropyl alcohol can also be used. Here’s a general overview of the process:

            Choosing the Cannabis

: RSO is made using high-quality cannabis flowers. The cannabis is typically high in THC, but strains with higher CBD content can also be used, depending on the desired effects.

            Extraction Process

: The cannabis is soaked in a solvent, which dissolves the cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds. The mixture is then filtered to remove plant material, leaving behind a concentrated oil.

            Evaporation

: The solvent is evaporated off, leaving behind the thick, sticky cannabis oil.

            Final Product

: The final product is a potent, dark-colored oil that can be consumed orally, applied topically, or even used in vaporizer pens.

It’s important to note that making RSO at home can be dangerous, as it involves flammable solvents. It’s best to purchase RSO from a reputable dispensary to ensure the product is safe and free from contaminants.

What Are the Purported Uses of RSO?

Rick Simpson Oil has become famous for its purported health benefits. While scientific research on its medical uses is still ongoing, RSO is most commonly used to help manage the following conditions:

            Pain Management

: RSO’s high THC content makes it effective in relieving chronic pain, particularly pain from conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and multiple sclerosis.

            Cancer Treatment

: RSO is often touted as a potential cancer treatment, with many users claiming that it helped them fight cancer. However, it’s important to note that scientific studies have not definitively proven that RSO can cure or treat cancer.

            Sleep Disorders

: Due to its calming effects, RSO is often used to help with insomnia and other sleep disorders.

            Anxiety and Stress

: Some people use RSO for its potential to alleviate anxiety, stress, and even symptoms of PTSD.

            Skin Conditions

: RSO can be applied topically to help with skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and even acne. Its anti-inflammatory properties may provide relief for various skin irritations.

While these uses are widely reported, it’s crucial to consult a healthcare professional before using RSO, especially for serious medical conditions like cancer.

How to Dose Rick Simpson Oil Safely

Because of its potency, dosing RSO safely is critical. It’s recommended to start with a very small amount, typically the size of a rice grain (around 0.1–0.2 grams), and gradually increase the dose as your body adjusts. Here are some general guidelines for dosing RSO:

            Start Small

: Begin with a very small dose, as RSO is highly concentrated. A typical starting dose is about the size of a grain of rice (around 0.1–0.2 grams).

            Increase Gradually

: As your body builds tolerance, you can slowly increase your dosage. Some people work their way up to 1 gram per day, but it’s important to listen to your body and consult a healthcare professional.

            Take It Slow

: RSO can be taken orally, but it’s best to take it slowly, allowing at least 90 minutes before deciding to take more. The effects of RSO can be intense, and it’s better to err on the side of caution.

            Consult a Professional

: If you’re considering RSO for medical use, especially for serious conditions like cancer, it’s important to work with a healthcare provider who is knowledgeable about cannabis and can guide you through proper dosing.

           Conclusion

Indica strains are often associated with relaxation and stress relief. These plants typically have broader leaves and shorter, bushier growth patterns. Originally hailing from regions with harsher climates, such as the mountainous areas of India and Afghanistan, Indica plants are designed to thrive in cooler environments, which contributes to their relaxing effects.

Sativa strains, on the other hand, are typically associated with a more energizing and uplifting effect. These plants are taller with narrower leaves and are usually found in warmer climates like Central and South America or Southeast Asia. Sativas have evolved to grow taller and thinner, which allows them to thrive in these hot, sunny regions.

: Sativa strains typically contain higher levels of THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis, which leads to more intense effects. They can also contain varying levels of CBD.

The choice between Indica and Sativa depends on your personal needs and what kind of experience you’re looking for. Here's a quick guide to help you decide:

Hybrid Strains: A Blend of Both Worlds

In addition to pure Indica and Sativa strains, there are also hybrid strains, which combine the characteristics of both. These can be balanced or lean more toward one type, offering a range of effects depending on your needs. Many cannabis users enjoy hybrids because they offer the best of both worlds—relaxation with a bit of energy, or pain relief with a touch of euphoria.

One of the most common misconceptions about THC detoxing is that it can be done overnight. In reality, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is stored in your body’s fat cells and can take time to leave your system.

           The Fact

: THC can remain in your body for days or even weeks, depending on factors like how frequently you use cannabis, your metabolism, and body fat percentage. For occasional users, THC may be detectable in urine for about 3-5 days. For regular users, it could be up to 30 days or longer.

If you’re hoping for a quick fix, you might be disappointed. But don’t worry—there are strategies to speed up the detox process.

Myth 2: Detox Products Are the Fastest Way to Cleanse Your Body

Another myth that circulates widely is the effectiveness of detox drinks and pills. These products often claim to “flush out” THC in a short amount of time, but their effectiveness is questionable.

           The Fact

: While some detox products may help temporarily dilute your urine, they don’t address the root issue. THC is primarily stored in fat cells, so simply drinking a detox drink will not eliminate THC from your system. Your body needs time to naturally metabolize and excrete THC.

The key to detoxing is not relying solely on products but incorporating healthy habits into your routine.

Myth 3: You Can Sweat THC Out with Exercise or Sauna

We’ve all heard the claim that exercise or sauna sessions can help "sweat out" THC. While physical activity and sweating have their benefits, this approach won’t instantly remove THC from your system.

           The Fact

: Exercise does burn fat, and since THC is stored in fat cells, it’s possible that exercise may help speed up the detox process over time. However, exercising excessively right before a drug test or expecting quick results is unrealistic.

Sweating alone will not significantly accelerate the detox process, but regular exercise can contribute to overall health and help your body detox more efficiently in the long term.

           Stay Hydrated

Drinking water is one of the simplest and most effective ways to support your body’s natural detox process. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day to help flush out toxins. Hydration also supports kidney function and digestion, which aids in the elimination of THC metabolites.

           Eat a Healthy Diet

A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fiber can help your body detoxify naturally. Foods like leafy greens, citrus fruits, and those high in antioxidants support the body’s metabolic processes. Avoid fatty and processed foods, as they can contribute to fat storage and slow down the detox process.

            3.

           Exercise Regularly

As mentioned, exercise can support fat-burning and boost metabolism, both of which can help your body eliminate THC more effectively. Aim for a mix of cardiovascular exercise (like running or cycling) and strength training to maximize fat burning.

           Give Your Body Time

Ultimately, the best way to detox from THC is to give your body time to naturally eliminate the substance. While some detox methods may provide a small boost, nothing is as effective as allowing your body to detox at its own pace. The more time you give yourself, the more likely it is that THC will naturally exit your system.

If you’re facing a drug test or struggling with detox symptoms, it might be wise to consult a healthcare provider. They can offer personalized advice based on your individual circumstances and recommend safe, effective ways to support the detox process.

While there’s no magical solution to quickly get THC out of your system, understanding the facts behind THC detoxing can help you approach the process more effectively. By debunking myths and incorporating healthy habits like drinking water, eating clean, and exercising, you can give your body the time it needs to naturally detoxify.

In the ever-evolving world of cannabis, a fascinating aspect often goes unnoticed but holds immense significance: terpenes. These aromatic compounds not only provide the distinctive scents and flavors of different cannabis strains but also play a crucial role in shaping their effects and therapeutic potential. Whether you’re a cannabis enthusiast, a medical professional, or simply curious about its science, this comprehensive guide is your gateway to understanding the intricate world of cannabis terpenes.

           What Are Terpenes?

Terpenes are organic compounds naturally produced by various plants, including cannabis. They are responsible for the aromatic properties and distinct fragrances in plants, flowers, and fruits. Terpenes are produced in the resin glands of

           What Do Terpenes Do?

Terpenes are believed to serve as a defense mechanism against predators and attract pollinators. In the cannabis world, they play a crucial role in the overall experience and effects of marijuana. They can interact with other compounds in the plant, such as cannabinoids

Terpenes can influence the effects of cannabinoids by interacting with receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system. They can enhance the effects of THC, leading to a more potent psychoactive experience, or even moderate the effects.

Terpenes may also have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-anxiety, or antidepressant effects. They are also thought to contribute to pain relief, relaxation, focus, or uplifted mood. More importantly, terpenes serve as markers for distinguishing between different cannabis strains.

How Many Types of Terpenes Are There?

Terpenes are very diverse, with over 50,000 unique terpenes existing in different plants and over 200 in cannabis alone, each with its own unique characteristics and potential benefits. Here are a few examples of common terpenes found in cannabis:

            Beta-caryophyllene

Beta-caryophyllene is one of the primary constituents of the essential oil of black pepper, hence its spicy and peppery aroma. Beta-caryophyllene is known for interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system, specifically targeting the CB2 receptors.

Unlike other terpenes, beta-caryophyllene has been found to act as a cannabinoid, although it is not classified as one. It binds to CB2 receptors primarily found in the immune system and peripheral tissues. This interaction with CB2 receptors may contribute to potential anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

Beta-pinene is one of the two major isomers of pinene, the other being alpha-pinene. Beta-pinene has a distinct pine-like aroma and can be found in varying concentrations depending on the strain. Beta-pinene is known to readily cross the blood-brain barrier, suggesting that it may have the ability to affect brain function. Some research suggests that beta-pinene may have memory-enhancing effects and potentially aid cognitive function.

Humulene is responsible for the earthy, woody, and slightly spicy aroma found in certain strains of cannabis. It may act as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting specific enzymes and pathways involved in the inflammatory response.

Some research suggests that humulene may influence appetite by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system. It may act as a CB2 receptor agonist, which could potentially result in reduced food intake.

As the name suggests, limonene has a citrusy, lemon-like scent. It is considered one of the major terpenes in cannabis and can contribute to the overall sensory experience of different strains. Limonene is believed to have mood-enhancing effects and may help reduce tension and nervousness.

Linalool is well-known for its floral and lavender-like scent, which gives it a pleasant and soothing aroma. It is often associated with relaxation and calming effects, making it popular in aromatherapy and personal care products. It has also been studied for its potential anti-anxiety, sedative, and antidepressant effects.

Myrcene is considered one of the most abundant terpenes in cannabis. It plays a significant role in shaping the aroma and effects of different strains; known for its distinct, musky, earthy, and herbal scent. It is often associated with a calming sensation and is believed to contribute to the “couch-lock” effect commonly attributed to certain Indica-dominant cannabis strains. It is also thought to have antibacterial, antifungal, and other beneficial outcomes.

Live is when extracts are made from “Live” flowers, which means we cut the nug right from the live plant and flash freeze it before the extraction process begins. This method captures all the flavor we’re so hungry for. All of our Live extracts are labeled “LIVE HASH ROSIN”

Cured is when extracts are made from “Cured” flowers; it means the flower has been harvested and dried before the extraction process begins. We do this with flowers that do not make it into our 8ths, half ounces, or ounces. All of our cured extracts are labeled “HASH ROSIN”.

           THC Anxiety Relief in Peralta

A new study funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has found that a citrusy-smelling terpene in marijuana could help ease anxiety and paranoia associated with THC. The findings, researchers say, could help unlock the maximum therapeutic benefit of THC and protect public health.

Published in the latest issue of the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence, the new paper says that subjects who vaporized the terpene D-limonene along with a dose of THC experienced less anxiety and paranoia compared to those who consumed THC alone.

“Ratings of anxiety-like subjective effects qualitatively decreased as D-limonene dose increased,” the report says, “and concurrent administration of 30 mg THC+15 mg D-limonene significantly reduced ratings of ‘anxious/nervous’ and ‘paranoid’ compared with 30 mg THC alone.”

Although D-limonene modulated the anxiety-like effects, however, it seemed to have minimal effect otherwise on participants’ experiences.

The addition of D-limonene, which is found in many citrus fruits in addition to cannabis and smells like oranges, “had little impact on other common acute subjective, cognitive, or physiological effects of THC,” researchers found. Inhaling the vaporized terpene by itself, meanwhile, “did not produce any acute effects that differ from placebo.”

To arrive at the conclusions, researchers had participants inhale vaporized D-limonene alone, THC alone, THC and D-limonene together or placebo (distilled water). They then recorded subjects’ vital signs, cognitive performance and subjective drug effects and mood. Measurements were taken immediately following exposure as well as periodically afterward over a course of six hours.

“This experiment showed that simultaneously administering vaporized D-limonene and THC reduced subjective indices of THC-induced anxiety in a dose-orderly manner,” the 12-author study found. “However, co-administration of D-limonene with THC did not systematically alter other subjective, cognitive, or physiological effects of THC, and D-limonene did not elicit any pharmacodynamic effects when compared with placebo.”

“D-limonene selectively attenuated THC-induced anxiogenic effects, suggesting this terpenoid could increase the therapeutic index of THC."

The report says it’s “among the first clinical studies to demonstrate the validity of the cannabis entourage effect, which theorizes that THC and other constituents of the plant interact in meaningful ways that alter acute cannabis effects.”

Its authors—from institutions such as Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and Vashon, Washington-based CReDO Science—wrote that the findings contribute to a better understanding of the workings of the cannabis plant, which could play a factor in both medical treatment and public policy.

“Given the growing interest in the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes and expanding legalization of cannabis for nonmedicinal purposes,” they wrote, “further understanding of which constituents may increase the safety profile of cannabis by attenuating acute adverse effects (e.g., anxiety and paranoia), and which constituents may exacerbate adverse effects, is paramount for advancing the use of cannabinoids in medicine and, more broadly, protecting public health.”

Pharmaceutical formulations of THC, such as dronabinol (Marinol), and chemical analogues of THC are already broadly approved for treating certain severe health conditions, they noted. “However, use of these medications is limited, in part, due to a narrow therapeutic index (i.e., an effective therapeutic dose is close to a dose that may elicit an adverse event),” the

“Thus, the development of novel THC-based medications that mitigate the anxiogenic effects of THC, hence widening its therapeutic index, could be of considerable clinical benefit,” it continues, calling for further “rigorous controlled clinical studies.”

“The results of the present study suggest that the development of novel cannabis product formulations high in D-limonene could be a viable and relatively straightforward strategy to widen the therapeutic window of medicinal cannabis and/or THC and potentially reduce adverse effects associated with non-medicinal cannabis use.”

The new research is part of a growing field of investigation into the entourage effect in cannabis as well as in entheogenic plants and fungi. While Western medicine typically seeks to identify and isolate a single active ingredient, the findings underscore the potentially powerful interactions of various chemical components produced by the plant.

As the plant grows, the CBG-A is naturally converted into CBDA and THC-A, which can later be converted into CBD and THC when activated by heat. CBG may help with chronic pain, anxiety, and sleep.

THC-V can have intoxicating effects; you should expect to feel intoxicated with higher doses, though it seems to have a shorter duration than THC. THC-V decreases appetite, increases satiety, and upregulates energy metabolism, making it a clinically useful remedy for weight loss and management of obesity and type 2 diabetic patients.

Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid undergoes a chemical change and turns into THC when cannabis is heated or decarboxylated (for example, by smoking, vaping, or cooking). THC-O is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that is abundant in raw cannabis buds and does not have psychoactive qualities when consumed in its Unprocessed form. THC-A will get you high when enough is consumed correctly.

, we believe in providing the best tips and tools to help you cultivate your own high-quality cannabis. Whether you're just starting or have some experience, our guide will take you through the basics to ensure your plants thrive.

           1. Choose the Right Strain

The first step is choosing the right cannabis strain for your needs. Consider whether you want an Indica, Sativa, or hybrid. Each strain has unique growth characteristics, effects, and needs. For beginners, consider starting with strains that are more forgiving and easier to grow.

           2. Select Your Growing Space

Cannabis can be grown indoors or outdoors, but each has different requirements. Indoor grows offer more control over the environment, while outdoor grows rely on natural light. Make sure your space is well-ventilated and offers enough room for the plants to flourish.

           3. Invest in Quality Soil

Good soil is essential for healthy plants. Opt for a high-quality, well-draining soil mix designed for cannabis. If you're growing in pots, make sure they have drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating and causing root rot.

           4. Light is Key

Cannabis needs plenty of light to thrive. If growing indoors, invest in quality grow lights. For outdoor grows, ensure your plants get at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day for optimal growth.

           5. Watering and Nutrients

Proper watering is crucial—cannabis plants don’t like to be overwatered. Use a light hand and ensure the soil is well-drained. In addition to water, your plants will need nutrients. Use cannabis-specific fertilizers to give your plants the necessary vitamins and minerals for healthy growth.

           6. Maintain Proper Temperature and Humidity

Cannabis grows best in a controlled environment. For indoor grows, keep the temperature between 65-80°F (18-27°C) and humidity levels around 40-60%. Outdoor grows are subject to seasonal changes, but aim for a similar range.

           7. Pruning and Training

Pruning helps to shape your plants and encourage stronger growth. Use techniques like topping and low-stress training (LST) to maximize yield and ensure good airflow around your plants.

           8. Harvesting at the Right Time

The timing of your harvest is crucial for getting he best quality cannabis. Look for signs such as the color of the trichomes and pistils to determine the perfect time to harvest. Harvesting too early or late can affect potency and flavor.
